Hamilton County Prosecutor Joseph T. Deters Announces Murder Indictments of two Juvenile Offenders

Today, Hamilton County Prosecutor Joseph T. Deters announced the indictments of Denerick Williams (DOB 4/8/05) and Tayvon Coffee (DOB 4/5/04) for the murder of 16- year-old Galevon Beauchamp.


Williams was indicted for two counts of Murder (SF), one count of Felonious Assault (F2), one count of Receiving Stolen Property (F4), two counts of Having Weapons Under Disability (F3), and one count of Escape (F3).


Coffee was indicted for two counts of Murder (SF) one count of Felonious Assault (F2), one count of Receiving Stolen Property (F4), two counts of Having Weapons Under Disability (F3), and one count of Theft (F4).


If convicted on all counts, Williams and Coffee face a maximum possible sentence of life in prison.


Two 14-year-old co-defendants (R.C. and D.B.) have also been charged in this offense. The Prosecutor’s Office has filed motions to try these co-defendants as adults.


On June 21, 2021, Coffee was driving a stolen vehicle on Reading Road. Williams, R.C., and D.B. were passengers in this vehicle. Coffee drove the vehicle near a crowded parking lot located at 3508 Reading Road. Williams, R.C. and D.B. fired multiple shots into the crowd. Beauchamp was struck and later succumbed to his injuries.


The day before this incident, Williams and R.C. had escaped from Hillcrest Academy.


R.C. was placed at Hillcrest as a result of a juvenile adjudication for Having Weapons Under Disability and Possession of Drugs. Williams was placed at Hillcrest as a result of juvenile adjudications for Theft of a Motor Vehicle and Possession of Drugs.


Williams was not permitted to possess a firearm as a result of his prior juvenile adjudications for Possession of Drugs. Coffee was not permitted to possess a firearm as a result of his prior juvenile adjudications for Burglary.


Hamilton County Prosecutor Joe Deters commented, “This is insanity. I know for many it is hard to imagine teenage boys being this dangerous.


The longer we excuse and minimize the serious criminal offenses committed by juveniles, the more cases like this we will have.


This is the second homicide charged this year relating to juveniles who were under court supervision at the time of the homicide. It is unacceptable.”
