Today, Hamilton County Prosecutor Joseph T. Deters announced that no charges would be filed against the officers in the July 16th officer involved shooting at 327 Crestline Avenue.

On July 16th at approximately 3:30 p.m. the police received two 911 calls to respond to 327 Crestline Avenue regarding a woman with a knife.  The callers described a woman with a knife threatening harm to herself and the occupants of 327 Crestline.

District 3 Cincinnati Police Officers Joshua Wallet and Andrew Snape responded to 327 Crestline.  When they arrived they encountered the woman, now known as Ebony Singley (DOB 4/3/93), with a knife on the porch at 327 Crestline.  Despite repeated commands to drop the knife, she refused to do so.

The homeowner of 327 Crestline opened the front door when she saw the police and Singley then forced her way into the home still armed with the knife.

At that point, Officer Snape employed his taser to no effect.  Officer Wallet fired 1 shot at Singley and struck her in the leg.

The officers called for medical assistance and Singley was transported to University Hospital.  She remains hospitalized today.

The officers recovered Singley’s 8 inch blade knife at the scene.

Singley is now charged with 1 count of Felonious Assault (Felony 1).

Both officers’ body cameras captured the incident.

Prosecutor Deters commented, “I reviewed both officers’ body camera video and talked with Chief Isaac.

This is eerily similar to the July 4th officer involved shooting in Bramble Park and once again Cincinnati Police officers acted appropriately and followed their training.  They confronted a woman with a knife threating harm to herself and others and, when their taser failed to take effect and the situation escalated, they had no choice but to shoot her.  When Singley forced her way into the Crestline home, the officers acted heroically and, in all probability, saved an innocent woman’s life by taking the actions that they took.

Once again I commend the Cincinnati Police Department and their officers for how well they handled a dangerous situation.”
