Hamilton County Prosecutor Joseph T. Deters announces the Indictment in daycare assault

Today, Hamilton County Prosecutor Joseph T. Deters announced the indictment Kristian Hemmitt (DOB 10/10/94) for the March 3, 2022 assault that occurred at Small Kids Adventures Learning Center. Hemmitt has been indicted for one count of Felonious Assault (F2), two counts of Child Endangering (F2/F3), and one count of Tampering with Evidence (F3). If convicted of all charges, she faces the maximum possible sentence of 11 years in prison.

On March 3, 2022, Hemmitt was working as a caretaker at Small Kids Adventures Learning Center on Glenway Avenue. Surveillance video from the daycare shows Hemmitt approach the 1-year-old victim. Hemmitt grabs the victim by the hair, lifting the child off the ground and dragging her across the room for approximately 10 feet.

Hemmitt, while still holding the child by her hair, begins to jerk the child back and forth, ripping the child’s hair out and then dropping her on the ground.

After the incident, Hemmitt attempted to cover the bald spots on the victim’s head and discard the hair that was ripped from the victim’s scalp.

Hamilton County Prosecutor Joe Deters commented, “This is every working parent’s worst nightmare. To leave your child at a facility that is responsible for their care and to have this happen is sickening.

There is simply no justification for why someone would do this to a 1-year-old baby.

The Cincinnati Police Department is actively investigating this individual to determine if any other child has been harmed by this woman. We ask any parent who believe their child may be a victim of this woman to contact District 3 of the Cincinnati Police Department at (513) 263-8300.”
