Today, Hamilton County Prosecutor Joseph T. Deters announced the indictments of Marquez Coleman (DOB 1/2/95) and Charlie Dailey (DOB 3/18/96) for the murder of Lorenzo Gray. Coleman and Dailey were each indicted with 1 count of Aggravated Murder (SF), 1 count of Murder (SF), one count of Felonious Assault (F2), and 2 counts of Having Weapons while Under Disability (F3). If convicted of all charges, they face the maximum possible sentence of life in prison.

On June 19, 2022, Dailey drove Coleman and an unidentified third suspect to a park located near 1769 Carll Street. Coleman and the unidentified third suspect exited Dailey’s vehicle and approached Gray and fired multiple rounds. Gray was struck and succumbed to his injuries on-scene. At the time Gray was shot, he was standing in front of his infant child.

After the shooting, Coleman and the third suspect fled back to Dailey’s vehicle and fled the scene.

At the time of the offense, Coleman had four felony indictments pending. As a condition of his bond, he was ordered to wear an Electronic Monitoring Unit. Since May 5, 2022, Coleman has had an active warrant for cutting off his ankle monitor. At the time of the offense, his whereabouts were unknown. Coleman’s pending indictments include:

  • B2006699 – Aggravated Trafficking in Drugs (F3), Aggravated Possession of Drugs (F3)
  • B2104446 – Weapons Under Disability (F3), Tampering with Evidence (F3), Improper Handling of a Firearm (F4), CCW (F4)

  • B2204882 – Weapons Under Disability (F3)

At the time of the offense, Dailey had three felony indictments pending. As a condition of his bond, he was ordered to wear an Electronic Monitoring Unit. He was still being monitored when the murder took place. Dailey’s pending indictments include:

  • B2105228 – Four counts of Trafficking in Fentanyl (F2/F5), four counts of Possession of Fentanyl (F1/F5), Trafficking in Cocaine (F3), Weapons Under Disability (F3)
  • B2200473 – Three counts of Trafficking in Fentanyl (F2/F5), CCW (F4), Weapons Under Disability (F3)
  • B2203168 – Weapons Under Disability (F3), CCW (F4), Improper Handling of a Firearm (F4), and Possession of Fentanyl (F3)

Hamilton County Prosecutor Joe Deters commented, “This case is the prime example of the current and repeating failures in our criminal justice system.

Electronic Monitoring Units do not work. They are not sufficient to protect the public. The fact that these two were able to repeatedly flaunt the rules of the court and continue to be released is insanity.

A man was murdered in front of his infant child by two men who should have never been on the street. This has to change.”
