Hamilton County Prosecutor Joseph T. Deters thanks Hamilton County Grand Jurors for their recent service

Today, Hamilton County Prosecutor Joseph T. Deters thanked Hamilton County grand jurors for their service.

While some court cases were suspended during the coronavirus pandemic, grand jury cases were suspended only briefly and resumed on May 18th.   Hamilton County citizens serve on each of the two grand juries which operate daily in Hamilton County.  The grand jurors’ service lasts for 2 weeks.

Space in the Hamilton County Prosecutor’s Office was specially designed to accommodate grand jurors and assure appropriate safety measures.  Hamilton County Probate Judge Ralph Winkler lent one of his courtrooms to be used as the second grand jury space.

Hamilton County Prosecutor Joseph T. Deters commented, “With the resumption of jury trials on Monday, August 3rd, I thought it appropriate to thank the Hamilton County citizens who have come downtown to serve as grand jurors during the pandemic.

Although steps have been taken to ensure their safety, we still realize that this is a big ask and we appreciate their service.

Our criminal justice system relies on help from the community.  Without citizens willing to come down and participate in the system, we would not be able to do the important work we do every day to help victims of crime.”
