Shannon Julious raped and murdered Gigi Brooks. Brooks body was found in an alley. Her clothes had been partially torn off of her. An autopsy showed that she had been killed by some type of blunt trauma to the side of her head. The coroner was not able to tell if it had been one strong blow or multiple blows that had killed her.
Police had multiple suspects at first. Julious denied having any involvement with Brooks, but unlike everyone else who was suspected, he refused to take a polygraph test. But through DNA testing they were able to determine that Julious had been the person who raped her. When later confronted about the Brooks death, Julious said that he knew her and that he had sex with her, but that he had not had sex with her near the time she died. This was the exact opposite of what he told police when he was first interviewed.
When confronted with the DNA evidence, Brooks suddenly changed his story to having sex with her around 10pm the day before she was murdered. When told that this wasn't possible because Brooks didn't get off work until 11pm, Julious claimed that they actually had sex sometime between 11pm and 2:30am. When told that wasn't possible because Brooks had been with her sister during that time period, Julious claimed to be having an asthma attack and refused to answer anymore questions.
He later pleaded guilty to raping and murdering Brooks.
Brooks has proven to be a habitual criminal. At the time DNA evidence identified him, he was already serving a lengthy prison sentence for theft and another rape.
