Hamilton County Prosecutor Melissa Powers announces the Indictment of German Mathews

Today, Hamilton County Prosecutor Melissa Powers announced the indictment of German Mathews. Mathews was indicted for two counts of Rape (F1), one count of Kidnapping (F1), and one count of Felonious Assault (F2). If convicted on all charges, he faces a maximum possible sentence of 22 years in prison.

On April 29, 2023, Mathews saw the victim walking to the bus stop and began following her. The victim and Mathews did not know each other. Mathews then grabbed the victim and threw her over a guardrail into a wooded area. Mathews struck the victim multiple times in the face causing significant injury. Mathews then began raping the victim.

A bystander saw this assault occurring and called 911. When Forest Park Police arrived on scene, Mathews was still assaulting the victim. Mathews fled from the police and was apprehended after a brief pursuit.

The victim is developmentally disabled and was on her way to work at the time of the attack.

Mathews is in the country illegally and was previously deported.

Hamilton County Prosecutor Melissa Powers commented, “This man stalked and brutally attacked a total stranger. What happened to this victim is horrifying. I am so thankful to the witness who called 911 and the police officers’ quick response – that saved this victim’s life.

This defendant has been deported multiple times. This is the second case in two months of women being violently attacked and raped by individuals who are here illegally. It’s infuriating.”
