Hamilton County Prosecutor Connie Pillich announces Indictment in Murder over rap video
Today Hamilton County Prosecutor Connie Pillich announced murder charges in a 2022 murder case that was a retaliatory shooting over a rap video.
Ronell Scott, 24, address unknown, was indicted on charges of purposeful murder, felony murder, felonious assault and aggravated murder in the death of 20-year-old TreShawn Smith. Scott faces up to life in prison.
A warrant has been issued for Scott’s arrest.
On Oct. 22, 2022 the victim was hanging out with friends in the middle of the day at the fountain on Elm Street in Lockland when Scott drove by, shot him in the head, and then fled.
Smith was a musician, and the shooting is related to a rap video he made, according to Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office. Several interviews over the years helped authorities identify the killer. The killing came after a feud between two groups that involved making rap videos disrespecting the other groups.
“These killings are senseless,” said Hamilton County Prosecutor Connie Pillich. “Nothing, especially a perceived slight in a rap video, is worth killing over. Through good investigatory work authorities identified Scott as the shooter. We never give up working to seek justice for victims.”
