Hamilton County Prosecutor Connie Pillich Announces Indictment on felony charges in violent attack on Law Enforcement Officers

Today, Hamilton County Prosecutor Connie Pillich announced that Robert Eldred has been indicted on multiple felony charges following a violent attack on law enforcement officers in Columbia Township.

Eldred has been charged with:

• Felonious Assault on an Officer (F1) – 5 counts

The charges stem from an incident on February 28, 2025, when officers from the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office responded to reports of a man chasing individuals with a baseball bat in Columbia Township. When officers attempted to de-escalate the situation, Eldred threw the bat at them before retrieving an axe from his house. He then charged the officers with the axe and threw it at them. Despite being subdued, Eldred continued to resist until emergency medical personnel arrived.

Prosecutor Connie Pillich commented:

“These deputies put their lives on the line to keep our community safe, and any act of violence against them is an attack on public safety. My office will prosecute this case aggressively to ensure accountability and uphold the rule of law.”

The case was investigated by the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office. Prosecutor Pillich commended their actions, stating:

“The swift response and professionalism of the Hamilton County Sheriff’s deputies in this dangerous situation reflect their dedication to protecting our community. They repeatedly employed de-escalation techniques that probably saved Mr. Eldred’s life. We appreciate their service and will work to ensure justice is served in this case.”
