Today, Hamilton County Prosecutor Joseph T. Deters announced the following indictments:
On November 1, 2019 at approximately 9:53 p.m. the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Department responded to the Hampton Inn at 2000 Ronald Reagan in Blue Ash in response to a call about unknown trouble and a person shot.
After investigation, the Sheriff’s determined that people had rented a hotel room for a night of gambling including craps and betting on the Madden video game. This went on for several hours with several thousand dollars exchanging hands. The people responsible for setting up the gambling room as well as some of the people who attempted a robbery had guns.
Jay Harris, Marvin Hughes Brown and Taymar Jones arrived at approximately 9:40 p.m and shortly thereafter attempted to enter the room with a gun drawn to rob the people inside. Shot were fired by both the people operating the gambling room as well as the would-be robbers. Victim/robber Taymar Jones was shot and killed. Fifteen-year-old JaQuan Howard, a gambler, was caught in the crossfire and shot and killed. Mykell Gamble, also a gambler, was shot in the foot.
Harris and Hughes, both robbers, are charged with murder for the 2 people who died. They are also charged with Felonious Assault for the injury to Mr. Gamble.
Kevin Coes had been gambling in the room before the robbery but was later connected to the men who attempted the robbery and, as such, was indicted for the murders and other offenses associated with the robbery. Yesica Perdomo, Coes’ girlfriend, was charged with Robbery and Obstructing Justice.
The Swains, who set up the gambling room, were both charged with Tampering with Evidence for removing guns from the hotel room prior to the arrival of the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Department.
Prosecutor Deters commented, “This was a shoot-out situation. The people who set up the illegal gambling operation were armed and the people who attempted to rob the operation came armed as well- – a chaotic scene.
This was a bad situation from the start and sadly two people died as a result.”
