On October 16th, the Hamilton County Prosecuting Attorney's office hosted its 36th Elder Justice Unit training, this time at Firehouse Grill in Blue Ash. Here's a deeper look at the meaning and impact of this innovative community outreach program.

On October 8, 2024, attorneys from the Hamilton County Prosecuting Attorney's office hosted an Elder Justice Unit training at the Evendale Recreation Center. This was the thirty-five training the team has hosted since August 2023. The event served about thirty attendees and featured a training on how to stay safe from scams and fraud.

On October 7, 2024, Hamilton County Prosecuting Attorney Melissa Powers served as the keynote speaker for a luncheon gathering of retired former Proctor and Gamble employees. Staffers from her office presented an Elder Justice Unit training to the group. The event took place at Seasons Retirement Community. Powers also served as a celebrity guest at the luncheon ahead of the presentation.

On September 17th, 2024, attorneys and staffers from the Elder Justice Unit spoke at a picnic with members of the Church of the Saviour. About 40 people attended the dinner, which included tips and training to protect people from scams.

On Tuesday, August 13th, 2024, the team from the Elder Justice Unit hosted a training at the Miami Township Senior Center in Cleves. The event was one of over thirty hosted by the Prosecuting Attorney's office since August 2023. The presentation provided information on how to protect people from scams. Attendees also found out more about the office helpline, 513-946-SCAM.

Nee Fong Chin, Chief Assistant Prosecuting Attorney for Hamilton County, spoke on June 10, 2024 in Judge Sandra Beckwith’s courtroom for the Naturalization Ceremony at the new UC College of Law. Beckwith presided over her courtroom for the very first time. Nee Fong Chin shared her family’s history of coming to the United States and what’s been like for her as a 1 st generation American born Chinese. When Nee Fong Chin graduated with her Juris Doctorate, she worked as a Clerk for a judge and then began her work at the Hamilton County Prosecutors Office, making her the first Chinese woman in Cincinnati to practice law. She has now been with the office for 30+ years and is the Environmental Division Chief/Chief Assistant Prosecuting Attorney.

On June 6, 2024, Hamilton County Prosecuting Attorney Melissa Powers was honored to attend the ribbon cutting and dedication ceremony for the Captain Phil H. Bucklew Veteran and Military Family Center at Xavier University. Bucklew was a 1936 Xavier University graduate and is considered the father of the modern US Navy SEALS. He also participated in the D-Day landing at Normandy, France. Powers was proud to show her support of past, present, and future veterans in Hamilton County.

On March 13, 2024, Melissa Powers served as keynote speaker at an innovative School Safety Summit hosted at Seton High School.
