Today, Hamilton County Prosecutor Joseph T. Deters announced the indictment of Brian Holmes (DOB 6/22/01) for the 11/21 murder of 25-year-old Rashad Shahid and the felonious assault of D.W.  Holmes is now charged with 2 counts of Murder (Special Felony) and 2 counts of Felonious Assault (Felony 2). If convicted of all charges, he faces the possibility of life in prison.

A juvenile co-defendant had an on-going argument with D.W’s sister.  The juvenile co-defendant, D.W. and his sister are all Northwest High School students.  Holmes and the juvenile co-defendant crossed paths with the victims after school when Holmes produced a handgun and started shooting.

All parties fled the scene.  Shortly thereafter, Mr. Shahid was found dead in a car on Waycross Avenue.  D.W., who was shot in the arm, was transported by the Colerain Police Department to the University of Cincinnati Medical Center for treatment.

Colerain Police found Holmes and the juvenile co-defendant hiding in the backyard of a home on Grant Avenue close to Northwest High School.  The police also recovered a .45 caliber gun from that area.

The Hamilton County Coroner ruled Mr. Shahid’s death a homicide as the result of a gunshot wounds to the torso.

Assistant Hamilton County Prosecutor Stacey DeGraffenreid commented, “A man is dead over a high school argument.  The total disregard for human life is horrifying.”

The juvenile co-defendant’s case is set for pre-trial on December 5th at 9:00 a.m. before Hamilton Court of Common Pleas Judge John Williams.
